A New Way To Treat Gum Recession

What Is Gum Recession?

When you lose gum tissue along your gum line, this is called gum recession. The problem is a serious one and can be caused by periodontal disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, advanced periodontitis), the natural aging process, or abrasive habits when it comes to brushing your teeth.

Why Should I Be Concerned About Gum Recession?

If you suffer from gum recession, it means that the root of your tooth can become exposed. Once the root is exposed, it’s more susceptible to bacteria, infection, and decay. Having healthy gums means that your teeth are protected and healthier, too. That’s why it’s so important to get treatment for receding gums.

What is the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST)?

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is a new technique that allows us to treat your gum recession in a less invasive, but just as effective, way. The technique allows us to move your gum line without using incisions, sutures, or grafts. Dr. Anderson was trained in this technique by Dr. Chao, the inventor of PST.

How Does The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) Differ From Traditional Gum Grafting?

Traditional gum recession treatments use donor tissue or soft tissue grafts in order to rebuild the gumline. This soft tissue is sutured in place and joins with existing gum tissue as it heals. Though this traditional grafting treatment is effective, we can get comparable results and give you a much better experience by using the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique.

How Is Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) Performed?

We’ll use a needle to make a small hole in your gum tissue. Through this pinhole, special instruments are used to gently loosen your gum tissue. These tools help expand your gum line and slide it up or down to cover your exposed root structure.

Benefits of Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST)?

  • Less discomfort after treatment.
  • Faster recovery than traditional grafting.
  • No need for uncomfortable sutures.
  • No need for scalpels or invasive surgical tools.
  • No need to take donor tissue from your palate.
  • Excellent, natural-looking, long-lasting results.
